I've seen six-figure production budgets get ignored and iPhone videos shot in a car go viral. The difference isn't equipment. It's voice.

What voice actually is

Brand voice is not your tagline. It's not your color palette. It's the specific feeling someone gets from reading your caption, watching your reel, or seeing your comment on someone else's post.

Voice is what makes your content recognizable with the logo cropped out.

Why it scales better than visuals

Production value has a ceiling. You can only make something look so good. But personality has no ceiling. Wit compounds. Consistency compounds. The more consistently you show up with the same voice, the more familiar you become, and familiarity is the first step to trust.

Trust is the step before purchase.

Finding your voice

Don't try to engineer it. Look back at your best-performing content from the last six months. What was the one thing all of it had in common? Not the format. The feeling.

Then look at the worst-performing content. What was missing?

That gap is your voice. You already know it. You just haven't named it yet.

The voice stack

Think in three layers: - What you say — the topics and subjects you return to - How you say it — the vocabulary, rhythm, sentence length - What you never say — the things that would sound wrong

The third layer is as important as the first two. Voice is as much about restraint as expression.

A practical test

Write a caption. Now read it out loud. Does it sound like you, or does it sound like a LinkedIn post? If it sounds like LinkedIn, rewrite it until it sounds like how you'd explain it to a friend.

That's your voice.
